Richard Felix-Ashman Design

After studying painting at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, and architecture in Brighton, England, I moved to San Francisco to pursue a career in design. I developed a love for interior design early in my working life. Beginning with hospitality projects, including Amangani in Jackson, Wyoming, the appreciation for the interior experience grew and soon became a passion. I naturally progressed to residential projects of varying scales, from modest apartments to large houses.

My approach is to marry the technical with the lyrical, to ensure spaces are functional and materially beautiful. Harmony of scale, tone and texture is vitally important to my style. However, the flow of movement within a room and the interconnection of spaces is something fundamental to my design philosophy.

When designing, I first establish a floor plan that is purposeful. A plan that addresses the needs of modern-day life is essential for a meaningful interior experience. Then comes architectural detail, furniture, textiles, and art. These interior elements arise together, harmoniously and in balance with the architecture.

As Founding Principal of Richard Felix-Ashman Design, I bring over twenty years of experience to our design studio. I am engaged at every scale of the residential experience. Working closely with clients, I continually strive to translate their needs and aspirations into spatially harmonious, and unique interiors.

I am a licensed architect in the State of California.
